For generations, Black entrepreneurs have struggled to gain a foothold in the multi-billion-dollar business of selling hair and cosmetic products to Black women.

Shocking Statistics

BeautyHairWorld designed “BE THE BOSS” specifically for African Americans! Statistically speaking, “Black owned premium beauty supply stores are outnumbered. Although African Americans purchase 9 times more beauty and grooming products than any other ethnic group, just represent about 1% of the beauty supply store market share.”

For instance, Professor Devin Robinson, the founder of Beauty Supply Institute out of Georgia, states that last year in the U.S. alone, the beauty supply business made $50 billion, yet African Americans only own 3% of that market. The beauty supply industry is a 96% ethnic market.

Additionally, there are tons of statistics supporting the fact that black owned businesses are at a disadvantage.  According to McKinsey, “58% of Black-owned businesses were at risk of financial distress compared to 27% of white-owned businesses pre-pandemic, and the pandemic has increased that gap.”

According to CNBC, “Small Business Survey shows that worries about survival remain higher among Black business owners. The CNBC survey finds that fears of permanent closure are high among Black small business owners, with 37% saying they can survive more than a year under current conditions, versus 59% of white small business owners and 55% of Hispanic small business owners.”
